Phan Thiet – 22nd June, 2010, The Dai-ichi Mutual Life Insurance Company (Dai-ichi Life) has continued to cooperate with the Sponsorship of The Association for Poor Patients of Ho Chi Minh City (the SAPP) to implement the program “Bringing sight to the disadvantaged blind” to more than 200 poor blind patients in Phan Thiet. The program already sponsored for around 300 cases in Ho Chi Minh City and Kien Giang in March and April of 2010. This is the second consecutive year that Dai-ichi Life has sponsored this program enabling eye operations for the underprivileged, blinded by cataract in Vietnam.
Cataracts are the most common reason for blindness in Vietnam. Most of patients suffering from cataracts are disadvantaged people who are having low standard of living and limited medical treatment. It is estimated, that around 170,000 people suffer from cataracts in Vietnam each year, therefore, providing supports for medical treatment and operations for these patients become extremely meaningful and more necessary than ever.
As one of the most meaningful activities that Dai-ichi Life can contribute to the community and express its “Lifetime partner” commitment to the Vietnamese people, the program “Bringing sight to the disadvantaged blind” continues to develop in 2010 with the expectation of bringing back sight, belief and hope to the life of these people.
Sponsoring 500 cases for the disadvantaged blind in 2010 is another meaningful community contribution of Dai-ichi Life in Vietnam. Besides the program of Eye Operation in 2009 and 2010, Dai-ichi Life Japan has also cooperated with The Ho Chi Minh City National Front to carry out other charitable activities in the community such as offering Public Health Awards, and Local Community Support, etc.
